Migration Queensland has reopened its State Nominated Migration Program for FY24-25, aimed at addressing priority skills shortages in the state. Skilled workers currently employed in Queensland can apply for the Skilled Nominated (Permanent) visa (subclass 190) or the Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) visa (subclass 491). International graduates not eligible under the graduate pathway can also apply under this program provided you meet the criteria.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must fulfill both Australian Department of Home Affairs and Migration Queensland requirements for the chosen visa category.
Key Requirements include:
- A points score of 65 or higher.
- An occupation that is eligible for skilled occupations list (LIN 19/051) to address Queensland’s skill shortages.
- Proficient English language skills.
- Work experience:
- For the 190 visa, you must have been living and working in Queensland for at least 6 months in a role related to your nominated occupation.
- For the 491 visa, you must have been living and working in regional Queensland for at least 3 months.
- Both visas require work experience of at least 30 hours per week.
Additionally, applicants must give evidence of ongoing employment for 12 months (subclass 190) or 6 months (subclass 491) and commit to living and working in Queensland for a minimum period (2 years for visa 190 and 3 years for visa 491).
Competitive Selection Process
Being selected for Queensland nomination is highly competitive with Migration Queensland considering factors such as employment experience, salary, English proficiency, and partner skills. Candidates are invited to apply based on their Expression of Interest (EOI) in SkillSelect and Registration of Interest (ROI) with Migration Queensland.
