How to Update Your Relationship Status
We are often asked how to update your relationship status. This video will tell you how you can do so if you get married, enter into a de facto relationship, or if you break up with your partner.
If your relationship status does change you should update immigration to let them know about the changes. You can do this in a few different ways.
- You can check in your immi account if you can select update details. If there is a section that says “Change in Situation” you can follow through the steps with this. However, with most visas, this is not possible.
- If you cannot update it through your immi account, you can complete the form 1022 – Change in Circumstance Form. On this form, you can state that you have entered into a de facto or spousal relationship. Or you can say you have broken up with your partner. If you enter into a relationship, be sure to provide a copy of both passports and the marriage or de facto relationship certificate. You can then post this to your closest immigration office or email it through to the relevant processing team. It is very important you do this, especially if you are looking to add your partner to your visa.
I hope that this information is clear, however, please feel free to get in contact if you have any other questions
