What are the requirements to study a Masters in Australia?
Depending on the field you are going to study you may need to present some prerequisites and documentation.
Example: If you study a Master of Structural Engineering, you will likely need to have previously studied a Bachelor of Engineering. Or have some high-level and long-term experience in the engineering sector.
However, there are a number of programs that you don’t need to meet these prerequisite requirements but instead just need to meet the basic need entry requirements.
- English language is the first important requirement to study in Australia. English level is generally an Academic IELTS of 6.5 with no band lower than a 6.
- Previous study to the equivalent of a bachelor level qualification in Australia. Usually MBA’s are one of the only Master’s program that allow you to enrol based on your work experience. The other courses will require you to have at least a bachelor level qualification.
- Even though have already done a bachelor level of study in your home country, if that doesn’t match the Australian equivalent, some universities may no recognise your previous studies of the full bachelor program. You may need to do a bridging program or some other courses to help you gain entry into the masters program.
A great Masters option that we can recommend is the Master of teaching. The Master of teaching allows you to study and work without having a background in education and opens up a new career pathway. Not only that, teachers are in high demand in Australia, so can generate a really good pathway to state nomination after your studies have finished.
