Pathway to PR after 2 years?
Update on immigration’s newly proposed 2-year pathway to PR for 482 visa holders.
Earlier this year, immigration announced that it would create a path to PR for 482 visa holders after only 2 years. This video outlines the process for immigration’s newly proposed pathway to PR for 482 visa holders.
This should be introduced by the end of 2023.
The Government has proposed that applicants transition through the Subclass 186 – Employer Nominated Scheme – Temporary Resident Transition Stream.
This is a visa that is already in effect, therefore the government can introduce these changes faster, but there are different requirements for it which are not as easy get.
However, in the newly proposed stream:
- Applicants will be able to gain PR in only 2 years on the 482 visa.
- Will be able to access in on any occupation on the STSOL or MLTSSL
- Will be able to access it anywhere in an around Australia.
- Will be likely required to be paid at least above the new TSMIT of $70,000
- Will likely need competent English (IELTS 6 inch band)
- Will likely need to be nominated by your current employer of the 482.
What you can do to prepare for these changes?
- Ensure you have competent English
- Ensure that you have 2 years of full time work experience on the 482. Ensure you were pain the correct salary as stipulated on the 482 contract
- Ensure that your employer is still capable of nominating you for the 186. (Eg – they have the financial capacity to continue to employ you moving into the future.
What are the likely costs:
- 186 Nomination $540 + $3,000 or $5,000 Skilling Australia Levy
- 186 Visa Charge: $4640 (main application) and $2320 for secondary applicants
