Vocational Placement: Gaining Practical Experience in Trade Courses
Vocational placement is an essential component of many trade courses, providing students with hands-on training in real-world work environments. During this placement, students apply the skills learned in the classroom to practical situations, enhancing their learning experience. For international students, vocational placement serves as an opportunity to test their classroom knowledge in real-life scenarios. It functions similarly to the trade apprenticeships commonly pursued by Australian domestic students.
This practical training is included in a wide range of trade courses, including Carpentry, Joinery, Automotive Mechanical, Automotive Electrical, Engineering Fabrication, Bricklaying, Boat Building, Chef, Electro-Instrumentation, and many others.
Here’s a short video showcasing one of our Carpentry students during his vocational placement:
Typically, students are required to complete a minimum of 360 hours of vocational placement during their course. This requirement is crucial for passing a provisional skills assessment, which is necessary for applying for a graduate work visa.
